Republican Tom Foley is encroaching on the home turf of Gov. Dannel P. Malloy.

A mere mile from Malloy’s Shippan home, Foley campaigned with Stamford GOP’s mayoral candidate and former Lt. Gov. Mike Fedele Tuesday afternoon. Fedele, who lost a bitter primary to Foley in the 2010 governor’s race, Tweeted a photo of himself with his former GOP rival at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in Stamford.

“I know that Mike and his team seemed optimistic,” Foley told Hearst Connecticut Newspapers. “They’re happy with the way that turnout seemed to be developing.”

Foley has his eye on Malloy’s other abode — the Governor’s Residence in Hartford.

Though he is still in the exploratory stages of a potential rematch, Foley certainly gave the impression on Election Day that he’ll take the next step. He also put in appearances in Norwalk and Trumbull, stumping for GOP incumbents Dick Moccia and Tim Herbst.

“I think it’s important that we have Republicans running our cities and towns wherever possible,” Foley said. “If I choose to run for governor, it certainly won’t hurt that I’ve helped people that are running in important towns throughout the state.”

Foley, the former U.S. ambassador to Ireland under President George W. Bush and a wealthy private equity manager, is expected to make Election Night stops in his hometown of Greenwich, Darien, Westport and circle back with Republicans in Stamford, Norwalk and Trumbull.
