Senate Minority Leader John McKinney, the highest-profile GOP candidate for governor, holds fundraiser tonight at Southport Brewing Co

The event is from 6 to 8 p.m., as McKinney, R-Fairfield, continues to gather the contributions of $100 or less that he needs to reach the threshold that would bring him into the state’s public-financing program for the 2014 gubernatorial cycle. His chief potential opponents for the nomination, Tom Foley of Greenwich, Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton and state Sen. Toni Boucher of Wilton, have formed exploratory committees, but McKinney’s is a fully-formed candidate committee.
