Connecticut Republicans spin Gov Malloy’s embrace of President Obama

This just in from Connecticut Republicans, whose newest mayor, Erin Stewart of New Britain, joined Gov. Dan Malloy is getting an Obama hug at Central Connecticut State University:

“HARTFORD, CT – Connecticut Republican Party Chairman Jerry Labriola, Jr. released the following statement today in response to Governor Malloy’s remarks today at the CBIA’s “2014 Connecticut Business Day” at the Legislative Office Building.

“It is beyond belief that Governor Malloy, in remarks before Connecticut business leaders today, would blame the people of Connecticut for their ‘perception’ that Connecticut has a bad economy.

“Talk about blaming the victim! First, the Governor mismanages Connecticut’s economy into a number of worst in the nation rankings and then he says the problem is that the people of Connecticut always see the glass as “half-empty.”

“Guess what Governor? Many people would be happy if the glass were half empty or half full or contained anything at all — because for many people, the glass is completely empty.

“Connecticut had negative economic growth for two consecutive years under the Malloy administration, our unemployment rate continues to exceed the national average and we lead the nation in an embarrassing ‘list of worsts and lasts’ in nearly every meaningful economic and fiscal category.

“These are not the perceptions or imaginings of the people. These are statistical facts:

  • In 2013, Chief Executive magazine ranked Connecticut among the 10 worst states with a rank of 45.
  • Barron’s rated Connecticut’s debt situation as the worst in the country in 2012
  • Connecticut has lost more jobs than it has gained since governor Malloy took office.
  • TopRetirements.com ranked Connecticut as the 2012 worst state for retirement
  • The Institute for Truth in Accounting ranked Connecticut’s financial status as the worst in the nation with a debt burden of $49,000 per taxpayer
  • Connecticut’s credit quality was ranked 50th in the nation by Conning Inc’s State of the States Municipal Credit Research Report
  • Connecticut’s Tax Freedom Day of May 5, 2012 was the latest in the nation according to the Tax Foundation
  • The Fiscal Policy Report Card on America’s Governors by the Cato Institute gave Gov. Dan Malloy an “F”
  • Connecticut’s 2013 Business Tax Climate Index Ranks 40
  • Connecticut ranks 40th in the Tax Foundation’s State Business Tax Climate Index.”
