UConn homers

BlumenthalHoops

Call him Dickie V Dickie B.

The “B” is for brackets — and we’re not talking tax brackets.

U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal is tied for seventh out of 190 participants in a NCAA men’s tournament pool organized by the Connecticut Democrats.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy is — well, let’s just say it might be time for a sit-down with Jim Calhoun while the three-time national championship coach is still on the state’s payroll.

The same goes for Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman, who is tied for 124th. Malloy is tied for 89th.

Here’s a shocker: all three picked UConn to cut down the nets.

Before you cynics go saying that these pols outsourced their brackets to some poor intern in a conference room with strength-of-schedule spreadsheets, a slide rule and Mountain Dew, the state party vouched for their authenticity.

“Actually, I think most of them did it themselves. The gov did his personally,” said James Hallinan, a spokesman for the Connecticut Democrats.

UConn plays Iowa State Friday night in the Sweet 16.

Just like Dick Vitale, Blumenthal has 11 of the 16 teams still dancing, compared to nine for both Malloy and Wyman, for whom there is a silver lining.

Malloy and Wyman are currently tied for fourth in a women’s tournament pool organized by the Democrats, with Blumenthal and fellow Sen. Chris Murphy tied for 23rd out of 76 participants.

All four went out on a limb with their consensus women’s national champion: UConn.
