“My blue heaven” — how Democratic delegates are apportioned

In six weeks, 1,737 delegates from across Connecticut will assemble in Hartford for the state Democratic convention, where they are expected to endorse Gov. Dannel P. Malloy by acclamation for a second term.

The party’s monopoly on the state’s largest cities is quite pronounced in the interactive map above and represents a stark contrast from the apportionment of GOP delegates, which Hearst illustrated earlier this week.

New Haven leads the way with 90 delegates, followed by Bridgeport (78), Hartford (67), Stamford (54) and Waterbury (50).

The totals do not include super delegates, which are comprised of state lawmakers, party officials and members of the Democratic State Central Committee.

Connecticut Democrats haven’t lost a statewide or a congressional election since 2006.
