Shelton Mayor Mark Lauretti is joining another GOP gubernatorial hopeful in taking out petitions to win a spot on the August 12 primary.
To get on the ballot, Lauretti, who only got 1 percent of convention delegates last Saturday, will have to obtain the signatures of 8,190 registered voters by a June 10 deadline.
Both state Senate Minority Leader John McKinney, R-Fairfield, and Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton filed documents with the Secretary of the State today, setting in motion the expected three-way gubernatorial primary after they obtained the 15 percent support needed at the convention.
Joe Visconti of West Hartford, another long-shot GOP gubernatorial hopeful, also took out petitions today, according to Av Harris, communications director for Secretary of the State Denise Merrill.
