As Malloy goes, so goes Foley

Wethersfield

If only Democratic Gov. Dan Malloy and Republican Tom Foley would agree to carpool.

Together Monday for the state AFL-CIO political convention in New Haven, the two adversaries were poised to cross paths again Tuesday until word got out about a potential chance encounter between Foley and Malloy.

Wink, wink.

Foley’s campaign was scouting out locations in Wethersfield for the GOP frontrunner in the governor’s race to hit the trail Tuesday — the same day that Malloy visited Connecticut’s oldest town for a bill signing ceremony.

Kawinkydink?

Hearst Connecticut Media received a copy of an email from a Foley operative to members of the local Republican Town Committee that was sent late Monday afternoon foreshadowing a potential visit to Wethersfield by the 2010 GOP nominee for governor, who is seeking to avenge his 6,500-vote loss to Malloy.

Good Afternoon Wethersfield RTC!

My name is Tim King and I am reaching out on behalf of the Tom Foley for Governor campaign. We’re looking for events in the local area for the immediate future, tomorrow if possible, and I wondered if you might have any ideas on where it might be best to make a presence.

Let me know if you have any thoughts.

Best,
Tim King

Foley’s plans curiously changed between Monday and Tuesday when Hearst reached out to his campaign, however.

“Tom is not going to be in Wethersfield today,” said Chris Cooper, a spokesman for Foley. “No decision has been made on his final destination. He was planning on heading up to the Hartford area to do some campaigning.”

Last week, Foley embarked on a man-on-the-street video campaign in which he interviewed people in New Haven about unemployment, the economic and quality of life concerns in Connecticut. It’s expected he will continue with that theme on the trail.
