“DANBURY MAYOR SUSPENDS STATEWIDE CAMPAIGN, SAYS FOLEY AND BACCHIOCHI “THE RIGHT CHOICE”

DANBURY – Mayor Mark Boughton announced today he is suspending his campaign for the Republican nomination for Governor. “It’s been my honor to seek Connecticut’s highest statewide office,” said Boughton. “However, I now believe it is time to suspend my candidacy and call for party unity behind the endorsed Republican candidate, Tom Foley.”

Since kicking off his campaign for Governor on January 8th, the seven-term Republican Mayor of Danbury has visited more than 100 cities and towns across Connecticut, participated in dozens of debates, panels, and public forums, raised more than $175,000, and received nearly 22 percent of the vote at the CTGOP Convention in May 2014.
“I entered this campaign because Connecticut is headed in the wrong direction and I believe a positive, reform-minded Republican can challenge Dan Malloy and win in November 2014,” said Boughton. “I now believe all Republicans should unite behind the endorsed candidates, Tom Foley and Penny Bacchiochi.”
Boughton announced he will close out his campaign committee, Team Boughton, in the coming weeks and release the committee’s staff to pursue other endeavors.

“My wife Phyllis and I are honored by the dedication and the hard work of thousands of elected officials, donors, and volunteers from across the state,” concluded Boughton.”
