Walker, running for Lt. Gov. candidate with McKinney, reaches personal fundraising goal of $75,000

David Walker of Bridgeport, who is campaigning for lieutenant governor with Senate Minority Leader John McKinney’s gubernatorial-primary effort, today announced he has exceeded the $75,000 threshold needed to participate individually in the Citizens Election Program of public financing. He said that nearly 1,000 contributors wrote checks of $100 or less. McKinney, who has not generated the $250,000 in small amounts needed for public financing, said earlier this week that the duo will continue to raise money together and run as a team for the August 12 GOP primary.

“I am greatly humbled by the tremendous support of those who care so deeply about our state and my candidacy,” Walker said in a statement. Our campaign has great momentum and we see a clear path to victory in the August primary. Having traveled across Connecticut numerous times in the past few months, I can tell you that the citizens of the Constitution understate know that our state is in serious trouble.  They know that the time for politics as usual is over. They want the strongest Lt. Governor possible to help the next Governor turn around our state and make a ‘Comeback’ in Connecticut happen. With the right team to take on Gov. Malloy and Lt. Gov. Wyman, we can and will win in November. Then, and only then, can a true ‘Comeback’ become a reality.”

McKinney’s campaign reaction: “Congratulations to Dave on all his hard work! Sen. McKinney is excited to move forward. John and Dave are the only team who has a plan to fix the problems in our state.”
