Birthday cards are for amateurs. So are cakes.

Ninety candles — not gonna do it.

Not when you’re feting the oldest living former president: George H.W. Bush.

Friends and family members are throwing a belated birthday bash in Greenwich July 9 for the 41st president, who turned 90 on June 12, Hearst Connecticut Media has learned.

Richard Breeden, who Bush appointed as chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in 1989, is hosting the fundraising shindig.

Bush is not expected to attend the event, which will raise money for Bush’s presidential library at Texas A&M University.
