Malloy, Wyman capture Working Families endorsement

Without their votes in the 2010 election, Republican Tom Foley would have been governor — not Dannel P. Malloy.

On Tuesday, the Connecticut Working Families Party decided to stick with the Democratic incumbent, cross-endorsing Malloy and Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman.

Popular with the unions, the left-wing party passed over petition candidate Jonathan Pelto in the governor’s race and running mate Ebony Murphy-Root, who are looking to tap into teacher disenchantment with Malloy’s administration over educational initiatives such as Common Core and tax policy.

The Working Families Party cited Malloy’s support of paid sick leave and raising the minimum wage in its endorsement.

“Governor Malloy has been a champion for working and middle class families and the uninsured,” Lindsay Farrell, executive director of the Connecticut Working Families Party, said in a statement. “He has been a critical ally on a number of important issues to our Party, and has earned our support for another term.”
