GOP Chairman Jerry Labriola forgets Common Core was enacted by previous governor, slams “Fireman” Dan

Here’s the slam of the day from GOP State Chairman Jerry Labriola, teeing off on Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s turnaround on Common Core.

“Dan Malloy, the father of Common Core in CT, saying we have too many standardized tests is like an arsonist saying the world has too many matches,” Labriola said in a statement.

Of course, Common Core emerged under the administration of Republican Gov. M. Jodi Rell, but all’s fair in love and politics.

This from Devon Puglia, spokesman for state Democrats:

“While we’re making dramatic strides for our schools – with hundreds of millions of new dollars invested and graduation rates that have risen each year – we also know we have more to do. That’s why Governor Malloy is working to reduce the number of tests 11th graders take – an important step. Jerry Labriola offers absolutely nothing to the conversation about moving our schools forward except vitriolic rhetoric that’s aimed at rooting for Connecticut’s failure. While we’re making progress, he’s probably sitting by his desk hoping student performance goes down so he can try to score cheap political points.”
