Foley says he won’t release state tax records

tom and heatherTom Foley, speaking with reporters after a brief appearance before the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities: “Why is the governor talking about people’s tax returns? Let me make something very clear. In the last 10 years I have paid over $2 million in taxes to the state of Connecticut and I think it’s very discourteous of the president..of the governor, to be saying otherwise and to be singling out a tax payer who has paid an awful lot of money to support this state, when in fact when I am governor I won’t be insulting our taxpayers. I’ll be thanking then and it seems to me like the governor is becoming a little unglued here with two weeks to go before the verdict comes down on his job as governor. Let’s talk about the things that matter to the citizens of Connecticut and the future policies that are going to affect their future. I was asked to release my summary federal returns, which I’ve done and here we are two weeks later and you’re asking me to do something else. When’s this going to stop? This has only come up recently.”

Partial tax records released last week showed that Foley paid only $673 in federal taxes in 2013.

Malloy, after his CCM visit in the Connecticut Convention Center: “I think when you run for governor of the state of Connecticut, you have an obligation to release your taxes. That’s why I released eight years worth. And the idea that you can run for governor of the state of Connecticut and not release your state income tax returns is ridiculous. He, by the way I will remind you, months ago said if I released my tax returns. he would release his tax returns. That is a promise that he has not kept. He’s breaking promises before he’s even governor. He could end this whole thing by releasing his tax returns.”
