Foley keys on independents in latest ad

If Tom Foley is to become the first Republican elected to statewide office in Connecticut since 2006, he must clean up with unaffiliated voters.

No if, ands or buts.

In an Oct. 22 Quinnipiac University poll, Foley was clinging to a 38 percent to 36 percent lead over Gov. Dannel P. Malloy among independents — the state’s largest voter bloc.

With that group in mind, Foley and running mate Heather Bond Somers pitch themselves in their latest campaign ad as independent problem solvers who will cut taxes, control spending and support job creators.

The pair talks about reaching across party lines to solicit ideas for a new regime in Hartford.

In addition to appearing on the GOP line of the ballot, Foley and Somers secured the Independent Party line.

On the flip side, the Democratic tandem of Malloy and Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman have locked up the Working Families Party line.
