A construction foreman from Oxford is lending his voice — and hard hat — to the deconstruction of Republican Tom Foley by organized labor.
Bruce Kern, seen at work in a machine shop and then at the controls of a crane, stars in the latest television attack ad released by Connecticut Forward.
A conduit for political money from the Democratic Governors Association and unions, the super PAC has saturated the state’s airwaves with the 30-second hit on Foley.
“My wife and I work some long hours, but it’s tough to make ends meet,” Kern said. “And when I hear about Tom Foley’s background, it’s clear that he’s gotten rich by sticking it to people like us.”
Public records show that Kern, 46, a registered Democrat, is a director of the Blakeslee Foremen’s Club in Branford. Blakesfee makes precast concrete building structures.
Kern cites the bankruptcy of a Georgia textile company once owned by Foley, who he said made $40 million from the sale of a Pennsylvania electrical manufacturer after firing workers and outsourcing jobs to Mexico.
“Why would I vote for a guy like that?” Kern said.
Foley’s campaign declined to comment.
