Greenberg concedes 5th Congressional District to Esty

Democrat Elizabeth Esty won her second term in the House of Representatives and Republican businessman Mark Greenberg  struck out on his third try to represent Connecticut’s 5th Congressional District.

Unofficial results showed the 55-year-old congresswoman from Cheshire had 51 percent of the vote with 47 percent of districts reporting at 11:15 p.m..

“We have the opportunity and the responsibility to lead our country to a better and brighter future,” Esty said from her election night headquarters in Waterbury. “I cannot wait to roll up my sleeves and get back to work.”

Greenberg conceded the race shortly after 10 p.m.

“I was going to have a smile on my face either way,” said Greenberg, 60, of Litchfield. “Now I go back to my wife and my beautiful kids and my dog foundation and my business.”
