Feb. 24 set for chilly special elections in Brookfield, Bethel, Danbury, Bridgeport, Stratford

Governor Dannel P. Malloy, left, today announced that special elections to fill three vacancies in the Connecticut General Assembly will occur on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 for the 23rd Senatorial District, which covers portions of Bridgeport and Stratford; the 107th Assembly District, which covers all of Brookfield, and parts of Bethel and Danbury; and the 129th Assembly District, which covers part of Bridgeport, particularly Black Rockdan5.

Andres Ayala, the 23rd District senator, did not accept the oath of office this week because he’s the new DMV commissioner. Auden Grogins, the 129th House member, balked at a second term when Malloy nominated her to the Superior Court. And Rep. David Scribner announced he was leaving the House just before swearing in on Wednesday, to accept a job with the Liquor Control Commission.

Under state law, Malloy was required to issue a Writ of Special Election within ten days of a vacancy in the General Assembly, and a special election must be held 46 days afterwards.
