Through the gauntlet of deficits, storms and violence in Newtown, he was the loyal gatekeeper of Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, charged with insulating his boss from negative press and the wrath of the Republican minority.

Now, Andrew Doba is parlaying his eventful tenure as the head of Malloy’s press shop into a communications and consulting gig with ex-Michael Bloomberg spokesman Stu Loeser in Manhattan and Connecticut.

Loeser, whose client lists includes the incredibly popular and at-times controversial car-for-hire service Uber, announced Doba’s hiring Thursday at his firm, Stu Loeser & Co.

“I watched with admiration as Doba’s deft storytelling skills and smart strategies helped
Governor Malloy lead Connecticut through some rough waters,” Loeser said Thursday in a statement. I’m thrilled that he is now going to help fuel our firm’s strong growth.”

Loeser, who was the longest-serving mayoral spokesman in New York City history, is expanding the footprint of his firm into Connecticut.

Doba, who was making $98,000 as a state employee, left the governor’s office at the end of 2014 and after Malloy was elected to a second term. In 2009, the Ansonia native worked on Bloomberg’s re-election campaign.

“When the opportunity came to join Stu’s firm, I jumped at it,” Doba said in a statement. “I’ve known Stu for a number of years. He’s one of the best in the business. And his team not only
understands modern communications, but also successfully delivers for clients in the
nation’s toughest media market. I’m excited to start this next chapter and to be a part of his
team.”

Succeeding Doba as Malloy’s communications guru was Mark Bergman, who was Malloy’s re-election campaign spokesman.
