This is one endorsement U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., probably didn’t count on.

It’s from Linda McMahon, who on Wednesday took to Facebook to applaud her 2010 election rival for shepherding the Clay Hunt Suicide Prevention for American Veterans Act through the Senate this week by unanimous consent.

“Congratulations to Sens. John McCain and Richard Blumenthal for sponsoring legislation aimed at preventing suicides by veterans and improving their access to mental health care,” McMahon wrote on the social network.

Considering that the wrestling matriarch spent $50 million running against Blumenthal, the rhetorical bouquet from McMahon is high praise indeed.

McMahon is the former CEO of the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment), which is a major supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project and is corporate partners with the Army National Guard.

Blumenthal, who is ranking member of the Veterans’ Affairs Committee in the Senate, characterized the bill as a major milestone on the mental health front for former servicemen and servicewomen.

“I’m very proud of what I’ve done on veterans issues,” Blumenthal told Hearst Connecticut Media Monday.

Blumenthal said Congress must do more for veterans, however.

“There’s a lot of work to be done,” Blumenthal said.
