A reference from Mark Boughton goes a long way with the Connecticut Republican Party.

Heath Fahle, the Republican political operative who managed the Danbury mayor’s 2014 campaign for governor, has been retained as a consultant by the state GOP.

That means that all three members of Boughton’s inner circle from his gubernatorial bid, which flamed out because funding problems, are now on the payroll of a party that is in rebuild mode after a disappointing midterm election. In January, the party hired former Boughton adviser John Kleinhans to become its executive director and former Boughton campaign attorney Christopher Oliveira to be the GOP’s legal compliance officer.

Should Boughton decide to make another run for governor in 2018, which the early indications would suggest is a distinct possibility, stacking the deck with political operatives loyal to the mayor could be an advantage.

Fahle is a former executive director of the Connecticut Republican Party. Last March, he left his position as the deputy director of the conservative Yankee Institute to devote his full attention to his political consulting business, Revolutionary Strategies, which inked Boughton as its marquee client.

The state GOP is paying Fahle $1,000 to help with strategy and communications under a month-to-month agreement, according to Kleinhans.
