President Obama, an avid basketball fan, called University of Connecticut Women’s Basketball Coach Geno Auriemma on Wednesday to congratulate him and the Huskies for winning the NCAA national championship.
According to a White House readout of the call, Obama noted that under Coach Auriemma’s leadership, the Huskies have won 10 national championship titles. His leadership has made the UCONN women’s basketball program a “sports powerhouse.”
The president told Auriemma that he looks forward to welcoming the team back to the White House to celebrate their victory.
