They passed the midterm election with flying colors. Their reward? A gig with Team Hillary.

Two former Connecticut political operatives have landed positions with Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. Expect more to join them as the weeks go by now that the former secretary of state and former first lady is a declared candidate.

Ian Sams, who the Democratic National Committee deployed to Connecticut last fall to assist Gov. Dannel P. Malloy with his successful re-election campaign, this month joined Clinton’s “rapid response” team.

In the 140-character Twitter sphere and Internet age, campaigns are under increasing pressure to respond to barbs from the other side of the political spectrum in a swift and decisive way. Enter Sams, who was previously a regional press secretary for the DNC. Get those Marco Rubio and Rand Paul rebuttals ready.

Caitlin Donohue, who was campaign finance director for U.S. Rep. Jim Himes, D-Conn., since November 2011, recently joined Clinton’s Northeast fundraising team. The University of Connecticut graduate helped Himes mine more $5 million in campaign cash during the 2012 and 2014 campaigns combined. That should come in handy in what is expected to be the most expensive presidential election in U.S. history.
