How much did your state legislator spend per vote?

Connecticut taxpayers shelled out $33.4 million in 2014 to 287 candidates for statewide office as part of the state’s so-called clean elections program, with 217 having returned a combined $804, 961 in unspent funds to the public coffers so far.

The state could recoup some additional from the remaining candidates, most of whom were chosen for routine audits by the state.

Here’s a breakdown by Hearst Connecticut Media of how much public money the candidates in our coverage area got, how much they returned and their overall spending per vote. It reflects the vote totals for candidates who ran on two lines such as Democratic/Working Families parties and Republican/Independent parties. Candidates listed as “pending” were either chosen for audits or there has been a delay in processing their refunds. Special thanks to the state Elections Enforcement Commission for providing us the roster of participants and refund amounts.
