Visconti phones Malloy to grouse over budget

The guy has moxie.

But it’s probably won’t get Joe Visconti a return phone call from Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, who probably wishes he was on a do-not-call list.

Visconti, who finished a distant third in the governor’s race last fall as a petition candidate, phoned Malloy’s office Tuesday to voice his opposition to Democrats’ plan to raise taxes on the middle class and businesses.

And he posted the call on YouTube.

“Wonder how long this is going take…but I’ve got a cup of coffee,” said Visconti, who was immediately placed on hold after getting a recorded message.

When Visconti did get through after a brief wait, he made it clear that he’s no ordinary Joe.

“Hello this is Joe Visconti calling from West Hartford. I ran last year against the governor for governor, and I’d like to leave a message to tell the governor please cut spending and don’t sign this tax bill, tax increase,” Visconti said.

Visconti placed similar calls to the Senate and House Democrats, though he was unable to get through to the latter because their phone lines were flooded with calls from opponents of the budget.

“You have my name?” Visconti double-checked with a receptionist for the Senate Democrats.

They do now.
