Murphy calls on Senate to address gun violence (w/video)

U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) called on Congress to take action to curb gun violence during a “Voices of Victims” speech on the floor of the U.S. senate Wednesday, June 24, 2015.

Murphy opened his speech with a conversation about the 2012 Sandy Hook Tragedy, but reminded the audience that the issue is alive today – especially in light of the recent South Carolina church shooting that claimed the lives of nine people.

A poster that stood beside Murphy read: “672 a year, 639 a month, 86 a day,” referring to the number of people who fall victim to gun violence.

According to a press release, the senator “laid out clear evidence that anti-gun violence policies can stop perpetrators of violence without affecting law-abiding gun owners.”

“Our silence has made us complicit in these murders,” he said.
