State Representative David Arconti (D-Danbury) has been appointed to serve on The Council of State Governments/Eastern Regional Conference’s Energy and Environment Committee through 2016.

According to its website, the The Energy & Environment Committee is composed of more than 100 state officials from all levels of government and aims “to foster a cooperative, nonpartisan approach to creating regional strategies to address common energy and environmental concerns.”

Arconti said two of his main concerns are making Candlewood Lake sustainable and lowering energy costs for state residents.

“Connecticut residents pay some of the highest energy bills in the country,” Arconti said. “I’m looking forward to bringing back new policy ideas from my work on this regional committee and introducing legislation next session to ease that burden.”

According to a press release, Arconti, vice chair of the legislature’s Environment Committee, was appointed to the council by Speaker of the House Brendan Sharkey.

“As a member of the CSG/ERC Energy & Environment Committee, I look forward to working with my regional colleagues on key policy initiatives focused on safeguarding the environment and promoting a sustainable and resilient energy infrastructure for Connecticut, as well as for the citizens in my district,” Arconti said in a statement.

“Committee membership provides a unique networking opportunity for me to share ideas and insights with my counterparts from throughout the Northeast region and bring best practices and resources to my constituents.”

CSG/ERC is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization located in New York City since 1937. It focuses on: agriculture, criminal justice, economic development, education, energy and environment, fiscal affairs, health care, transportation and US-Canada relations.

“As many states continue to struggle with budget shortfalls, it is crucial that we receive and share information to promote our regional priorities at the federal level,” Arconti said.
