Greenwich, Darien, and Stratford police are searching for a pair of men they believe to be linked to a recent string of thefts from lockers and unlocked vehicles at country clubs and golf courses throughout Fairfield County. Investigators are linking the Country Club burglaries back to a white Nissan Maxima or Altima with a Texas license plate after two men were seen rummaging through a car in the Oronoque Country Club parking lot in Stratford before leaving in such a vehicle this week. Other victims had also placed a car fitting the description at the scene of several reported thefts and break-ins in Greenwich and Darien.
Though Stratford police could not confirm the items taken from the Oronoque incident, reported thefts from Greenwich country clubs earlier this summer disclosed watches and other valuables were taken from lockers.
The two men, named “Suspect #1” and “Suspect #2,” are both thought to be either white or Hispanic. Suspect #1 is being reported as heavyset and speaking with an accent, while Suspect #2 is described as having a medium build. Photographs and police reports show both men wearing golf shirts and sunglasses during the burglaries, and at least one wearing golf shoes.
According to police reports, Suspect #1 will enter the clubhouse to scope out unlocked lockers, and when questioned by staff, will indicate he is a guest, but does not provide the name of the member.
Greenwich Police are encouraging anyone with information about the two men, the white Nissan, or the whereabouts of either to contact them, and recommend residents lock valuables either in secured lockers or in the trunk of a vehicle. Residents are reminded to always lock their cars when leaving them unattended.
