Board of Education road trip

With a rigorous syllabus in front of them, five Board of Education members ventured out of town last week for some additional coursework.

New board members Peter Bernstein and Laura Erickson and returning board members Barbara O’Neill, Adriana Ospina and Jennifer Dayton participated in the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education Conference, which was held Nov.15-16 in Groton.  “Keeping Focus on Student Growth in a Time of Rapid Change” comprised the conference’s theme.

Board members met with state Commissioner of Education Stefan Pryor and, Allan Taylor, chair of the State Board of Education, during a workshop at the conference.  They also met with Sen. Richard Blumenthal, a Greenwich resident.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy spoke at the conference during its midday session on Nov. 15.

The three new board members will have the opportunity to put their learning at the conference to the test when they participate Thursday in their first board meeting as members of the eight-person panel. Thursday’s meeting starts at 7 p.m. at OldGreenwichSchool.
