Glenville firefighters to ramp up heat at regional chili cook-off

|

Glenville volunteer firefighters likes it hot.

Their chili, that is.

A team of firefighters led by Joe Sechi will be tackling a very different sort of heat this weekend when they take on three other tri-state area firehouses in the semi-finals of CBS RADIO New York’s Firehouse Chili Cook-Off this weekend. They’ll be going up against teams  from Rockville Centre, Long Beach, and Hastings-on-Hudson on Sunday afternoon.

The stakes are high: only one squad will move on from the semi-finals to the final round, where they’ll slice and dice for VIP tickets to a 2014 Yankees game. Each chili will be judged by a pair of retired New York Giants greats: running back Tiki Barber and punter Sean Landeta.

If selected to move on, the Glenville Company will face the winners of two more rounds of semi-finals to be held in December and January.

They’re no rookies: Sechi and his team won the people’s choice for beef chili at the Cos Cob Chili Cook-Off in October for their cumin-heavy entry, coming in second overall.

All teams making it to the semi-finals won $500 toward the charity of their choice.
