Greenwich man arrested for stolen steak

Greenwich Police have arrested a local man for bringing new meaning to the word “rump roast” after he attempted to hide a stolen rib-eye steak in his pants at a Cos Cob Whole Foods. Harold Otto, 46, is now facing sixth-degree larceny charges.

According to police reports, Otto placed an order for a rib-eye shortly after 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the 90 East Putnam Avenue Whole Foods butcher department. After receiving the meat, a store employee observed Otto place the package  inside the rear of his sweatpants and exit the  store without paying for it.

The suspect was arrested a short time and distance away, and the stolen steak recovered. Police could not confirm what happened to the meat upon its  recovery.

Otto provided police his address, but residents at that residence have since refuted that the suspect ever resided there, despite police reports.

Otto was released  with a promise to appear for a scheduled court date for Jan. 23.
