Greenwich man in state custody after sexually assaulting child

A Greenwich man is in state custody on charges of sexual assaulting a  juvenile family member last January. Greenwich Police arrested Lazaro German, 57, of 27 Havemeyer Place, on a warrant Thursday afternoon and held him on $200,000 bail.

Greenwich Police declined to comment on the arrest.

At an appearance in state Superior Court in Stamford Friday, Judge Thomas Colin ruled that German, who does not have a previous criminal record in Connecticut, was not fit to be released and required medical attention. German’s arraignment was also cut short after allegations that the defendant had been living in the same house as the victim came to light, requiring involvement of family court officials and domestic social workers.

Colin also authorized an indefinite protective order against German to be placed on the victim, who is under the age of 16 and related to him by “blood or marriage,” according to court documents. The victim is not a child of German’s.

The arrest stems from an incident on January 24, 2014.

The arrest warrant has been sealed for two weeks following German’s arrest and the court’s  mandated medical attention.
