Greenwich Police have arrested a Mississippi man after he allegedly punched his girlfriend in the face while the pair were packing their belongs in preparation to move. The cause of the assault was allegedly a new dog the couple had gotten.

The man, who has not been identified to protect the victim, is now facing charges of third-degree assault and disorderly conduct. He was held on $1,000 bail following the incident.

According to police reports, neighbors on Forest Avenue in Old  Greenwich called police after they heard screams for help and a man yelling obscenities at approximately 1:40 a.m. Monday morning.

When police arrived at the apartment, they determined the man had hit the woman, with whom he was in a dating relationship, in the face with a closed fist. The argument had begun verbal but quickly spiraled into violence.

The suspect appeared in state Superior Court in Stamford Tuesday.
