The Historic Post Office on Greenwich Avenue was never so swank as it was last night when the doors opened at 6:30 p.m. to a swarm of invited guests for the pre-opening gala of the new RH Design Galleries ie Restoration Hardware retail store. Inside the crush, the guests were busy balancing their Bellini cocktails brought from Cipriani in New York while they ogled the now massive interior space. Center stage in the great new space was the drumbeat of the New York pop duo – the Brixtons.
Knockout in the crowd was highly stylish Wendy Stapleton Reyes, daughter of the former Ambassador to France Craig Stapleton. As co-founder of the Greenwich International Film Festival her non-profit was the benefit honoree of the evening. Peeling off into the side galleries of luxurious bedroom suites were other members of the Stapleton family, while sitting on an oversized couch photographer Jeanne Host and her son George Host sat wondering at the amazing transformation before them of the old Post Office.
Upstairs on the new second floor, strollers were checking out the new terraces with elegant outdoor furniture. Found on one of the numerous terraces was Debra Mecky, executive director of the Greenwich Historical Society, and her husband Carl, who was wondering just where there was space enough in their home for some of the oversize RE Design furnishings.
