On Saturday, July 26, the Greenwich Wiffle Ball team players, ages 12 and up, take to the Greenwich Polo Club field at Conyers Farm for an exciting and competitive all day event. Over 60 teams of 4-5 players battle it out from 8:45 a.m. until only one team is left standing. First place team receives $1600, second place receives $800, third place receives $400 and fourth place receives $100.
It’s the seventh year of the Greenwich Wiffle Ball Tournament that has been sponsored by Greenwich United Way since the nonprofit responded to a request by Greenwich youth to have a wiffle ball field in Greenwich.
The Greenwich Polo Club has provided the location for this popular event since the start. According to the JR United Way organizers, the tournament draws more teams each year, and anticipates over 300 players and hundreds of spectators will be on hand for this year’s event. Proceeds will go toward maintaining what will — someday — be a permanent site.
This now-traditional midsummer event has become a real draw as the result of the dedicated planning and hard work of many local wiffle ball devotees, including the JR United Way, the Parks and Rec.Dept. and Police Dept., the Greenwich United Way, local businesses and others.
