A 16-year-old girl was killed in a tubing accident in Greenwich waters of Long Island Sound Wednesday afternoon, and another teenage girl was seriously injured.

Both were riding on a rubber tube being pulled by a boat when the accident occurred near the Old Greenwich Yacht Club at approximately 2 p.m.

There were two other teenage girls on the boat at the time, including the driver. All are believed to be under 18 and students at Greenwich High School, according to police.

Police did not release names of those involved.

The injured girl was taken by a Greenwich Emergency Medical Service ambulance to Stamford Hospital. Her injuries were serious, but not considered life threatening, police said.

Multiple police units and Greenwich Emergency Medical Service ambulances were dispatched to the scene.

There has been a serious boat accident at Greenwich Point. According to early reports, there has been a fatality.

Greenwich Police confirm that multiple units have been dispatched to Greenwich Point, but could not provide further details at this time. EMS personnel remain on the  call.

Lt. Kraig Gray of the Greenwich Police said that a release will be provided shortly.
