Penn State U. is known for many things – its healthy enrollment of some 100,000 students on its 24 campuses, its Dance Marathon or THON event that raises money for kids with cancer – but it’s also known for its famous 1991 grad. – Lara Spencer, the diver, the former THON dancer, the Good Morning America co-host, and former Riverside resident.

Spencer will soon be celebrated by her alma mater as she’s been named 2014 Homecoming Grand Marshal to preside over the University’s annual Homecoming Week Sept. 22 – 27. Highlights of her role will be a face off between Penn State’s Nittany Lion and Northwestern, the annual parade, and the ceremonial unveiling of the THON theme, and carnival.

Good Morning America watchers had the chance last year to view Spencer’s dazzling diving debut when she documented her time diving at Penn State  for a “Back to School” series. Spencer visited her college diving pool with her former diving coach Craig Brown in the segment that showed off her diving prowess.
