To say that the new grading policy at Danbury High School has upset some teachers, parents, and students would be an understatement.
As I noted on Thursday, due to the number of snow days, the high school decided to modify their grading policy. Here’s a copy of the letter principal Bob Rossi that details the changes…
Several residents are very upset with the changes with some accusing school officials with grade manipulation. During the most recent meeting of the Board of Education, resident Dale Steichen blasted school officials over their grading modifications.
Here’s a copy of Steichen’s letter to the Board of Education.
I’ll have more on this subject later…

Al, strikes me that a lot of the tax increases proposed by Malloy will impact the folks with lower incomes. I guess he feels the high income folks can no longer support all those retired state employee pensions on their own.
@Lori: You raise very interesting points…and don’t forget that the board voted to get rid of the Feb break in order to make up some days. Finally, it’s not like the kids missed eight days in a row (which would be disruptive)…teachers should be able to adjust their curriculum without any major disruption.
Why not just make the exams count for a smaller percentage of the overall grade? Much simpler and more ethical than making a false report where exam grades are concerned. And why exactly wouldn’t a student not bother to show up for an exam? Did they actually hold them on days that school was canceled? The weather was very disruptive, but I bet there are students who studied and did fairly well anyway.
Al, THANKS for staying with this issue. I hope a lot of people see the difference in the detail that you provide versus the DNT article. You and I may be 180 degrees apart politically but I certainly applaud the way you attack issues. Maybe the DNT should worry as much about their own diversity as they do about the police department and put you on their staff.
