We didn’t make it a week! Congresswoman Giffords experienced a life-altering experience. When I see her on the TV I can only guess at the long-term effects of the trauma. After a much less traumatic experience myself (a run-in with a vile cancer), I found myself wanting to help others going through a similar experience. That is a common feeling – for those with any sense of humanity. Obviously Ms. Giffords wanted to help the people of Sandy Hook – that is her nature. In Congress, Ms. GIffords worked towards compromise and was very much a moderate – something we need more of. What we do not need is small-minded, hateful people such as Ms. Hovey.

Dear Rep. Hovey,

I can’t wait for you to campaign for re-election. I plan to donate and volunteer for your opponent, whomever that may be, due to your recent outburst on Facebook regarding Gabby Giffords. Yes, you apologized *if* you offended anyone. But you still made the offending comments in the first place. Of all people… Gabby Giffords? And of all topics… gun control to those mourning in Newtown? Wow!!! Could you be more heartless? Posting such nasty comments on Facebook was a really stupid move and I hope you regret it. Even thinking up such nasty comments is mean-spirited. I’m thinking, based on your public apology that you received a lot of backlash from your actions. I hope so. You deserve it.
