Press release today from Stratton Faxon Road Races:
Fairfield: This year’s Stratton Faxon Fairfield Road Races are expected to have a record crowd. There are over 3,000 runners already registered for the Half Marathon course. With a limit of 4,500 runners for the Half Marathon and 1,500 runners for the 5K the Half Marathon will once again sell out and the 5K is on track to sell out for the first time.
This year’s Stratton Faxon Fairfield Half Marathon will feature a new, flatter and more scenic course that stretches into Westport. The new course has increased popularity amongst runners. “The registration rate for this year’s race has been faster than in previous years. We are anticipating an early sell out for the race within the next few weeks,” said Steve Lobdell, Race Director.
The annual event will again take place over 2 days in 2013 with the 5K on Saturday, June 22nd and the Half Marathon on Sunday, June 23rd at Fairfield’s Jennings Beach. After the races participants are encouraged to enjoy the best post-race beach party yet! Featuring hot dogs from Kayem, smoothies by Robeks, Chabaso Bread, refreshments and live music – this is one party you do not want to miss! Runners may also enjoy more bands along the race course, an additional water stop as well as massages and finisher medals for all half marathon participants. Since its inception the event has by hosted by Fairfield’s Firefighters.
The Fairfield Road Races are a non-profit organization that, with the help of its participants, has contributed over $4 million to non-profit groups in the past. Lobdell states, “This past year alone a record amount of over $400,000 was raised for the Paul Newman’s Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Operation Gift Cards, John Patrick Flanagan Foundation, Fairfield YMCA and a number of other local charities.” Runners can receive a complimentary entry into this year’s race by raising money for the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp.
“We are very excited to return as Title Sponsor of the Fairfield races and are proud to support an event that gives so much back to the community,” said Michael Stratton, partner of Stratton Faxon. Sponsoring the race is part of Stratton Faxon’s 10% philosophy. That is, that 10% of case fees are set aside to support charitable causes that help better the community or civil jury system.
