The Stratton Faxon Fairfield Road Races kicked off on Saturday morning with the annual 5k. It was my first trip to Jennings Beach and all the great things I heard about the race and atmosphere were true. The location is perfect with the beach only about 100 feet away from the finish line in the parking lot. The tents on the beach for vendors and fund-raising are perfect for the post-race gathering of food and live music. It’s easy to see why the numbers are so big every year for this race. There were 1,355 5k finishers.

Despite nursing a hamstring injury on my right leg I can’t wait to come back for the half marathon tomorrow morning. Parking is going to be limited tomorrow and if you want to park in the beach parking lot you better get there before 7 a.m. (I got there at 7 a.m. today and got a spot easily but there will be a lot more people there tomorrow. Five thousand runners have signed up for the half!.

Congrats to all the 5k finishers today and good luck to all the half marathoners on Sunday. Stay hydrated and if you see me say hello.
