Latest release from JB Sports regarding Tommy Fund:
This Sunday Firefighters from across CT will run from New Britain to New Haven as part of the annual Tommy Fund Firefighter Relay. The relay will begin at 3:30 a.m. in New Britain and will continue non-stop until runners reach the CT Tennis Center at Yale in New Haven to kick off the annual Tommy Fund Family Day. The Tommy Fund was started over 60 years ago by the New Britain Fire Department. Kevin Klett, a New Britain firefighter, expects to run the majority of the 35 mile trek.
New Britain firefighters will start the relay at the New Britain Fire Station #2 (146 S. Main). They will be joined by firefighters and fire trucks from the following municipalities: Berlin, Middletown, Meriden, Wallingford, North Haven, Hamden and New Haven. Over 50 firefighters will participate in this year’s relay event.
The Tommy Fund Firefighter relay proceeds benefit The Tommy Fund, an independent, not for profit organization whose mission is to provide emotional, educational, recreational and medical support to children with cancer and their families. Over the past month firefighters from departments around CT have used on-line campaigns to raise money for the organization.
Sponsors of The Tommy Firefighter Relay include: Yvette & Arthur Eder Foundation, Bank of America, Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale New Haven, American Commerce Insurance, AAA Insurance, AAA of Southern New England, ConnectiCare, Snowden Capital Advisors, Chabaso Bakery and Subway World Headquarters, Yale-New Haven Hospital and Diamond Ice.
