Recently, it’s become clear that Bobby Parnell was being stretched out. This culminated in three innings of work last night in the Mets blowout win over the Cardinals.
Now we can be sure what it’s about: Parnell is heading for the starting rotation. He’s had plenty of work as a starter in the minors; in fact, only two of his minor league appearances came out of the pen.
Injuries and circumstance likely hastened the Mets decision to move Parnell into the rotation. With Jon Niese apparently out for the season, and Mike Pelfrey taking leave to be with his wife for the birth of his first child (a boy, Chase Michael Pelfrey), there was an immediate need for another starter. Parnell will take Pelfrey’s spot Saturday, with Pelfrey rejoining the team to pitch Monday.
With the Mets fading, this is the perfect time to see if Parnell can handle a starting role in the majors. Though he’ll be on a limited pitch count at first, Parnell will get to start for the rest of the year, meaning we’ll get a good look at one of the few healthy Mets prospects remaining in the organization.

it wont matter whos in the rotation with krod at the end of the games.
