An interesting plot line can make any subject interesting – including septic systems. In fact, the catchy songsĀ and the cute little love story almost make you forget you’re learning about the value of taking proper care of your septic system. I particularly loved the auto-tuned dance track about draining your septic system.
Helen Martin Block hosted a viewing of the mockumentary, “Pump it Up, Baby” at the Green Market Exposition at the Barnum Museum in Bridgeport on Saturday.
There are 6,000 septic systems in Westport, and how people take care of their septic system directly affects the drinking water quality and Long Island Sound health.
Block sat on Westport’s Planning & Zoning Commission in 2007, and wanted to find a way to educate people in a fun way. Block wrote the script and worked with students from Staples High School in Westport to produce the movie.
“With small grant, we transformed the script to very engaging and funny film with terrific information told to us by experts,” Block said.
Walter Kosner (now at Columbia College in Chicago) and Michael Holmes (now at the New York University Tisch School of the Arts) wrote musical arrangements for Block’s script, did the casting and the filming.

Well done Vinti Singh! You got the essence of the film and wrote an accurate as well as interesting blog. I sat through two other presentations at Green Market Exposition and noted you observed those with the same intensity. Thank you for covering ‘Pump It Up Baby’.
You have a bright future in journalism – we need committed young people like you.
