Select a neighborhood that will allow you to definitely best live your daily life. Many people select towns depending on universities. Would you like use of shopping as well as the bus? Is access to nearby services like your local library and galleries important to you? Or would you prefer the peace and quiet of your non-urban community?

I've been expecting Bridgeport to make a comeback for 30 years and it still hasn't happened. Why not? It has it all...seaport, airport, highway, train, wealthy suburbs...it doesn't make sense. My gut tells me the corruption is too deep rooted. Not necessarily elected officials, they can be unelected, but the rest of the bureaucracy that is so deeply entrenched that it is impossible to root out. It is such a shame. I've ofter heard from my 93 yr. old mother-in-law about what a wonderful place Bridgeport was in the 30's and 40's. It was the place to be....Not anymore...it's the place not to be.

bridgeport needs to get rid of corrupt gov and start a new campaign to represent it fairly and honestly, as long as we have crooked politics, and overtaxed residents and comerce, we will not attract any entertainment, businesses, companies, anything worth comming to Bpt for other than paying your property taxes. also take note :If you go to downtown , make sure you have a pocket full of quaters cause you'll get a healthy $35.00 ticket if you don't feed the meters, how do they expect one to shop downtown if what ever you buy is gonna cost you an extra $35.00. people are moving out of the whole state, overtaxed under-represented

How do you define "success?"

What were the goals of the rally? Were those goals achieved?

I have an aunt and uncle that not only drive a Prius, but have an Obama bumper sticker on it!

They aren't changing anybody's minds, they're just letting the rest of us know how virtuous they are.

Stamford/Norwalk are best places to live in CT. Lots of new developement, mass transit improvements in the works, art & culture, plus proximity to NYC. I work in Manhattan and take that Manhattan salary home to Stamford where it is more than enough to cover my mortgage (~20% of monthly salary).

This is news? When I arrived in Stamford back in 68 housing costs were out of sight and half my salary went to rent a studio apartment. Almost all of my then married friends ended in divorce because of fights over money due to housing and trying to raise a child. So get used to Stamford. Expensive is not the new normal, it's just normal. If you are looking for affordable than either move upstate or more to Austin. Or pick up a second job like I did.

Well, what this article says is true not just for this age group! I know a few older couples who have kids in CT and they would love to retire there, but absolutely cannot afford it. They are in no way considering buying due to the property tax, and the recently-added real estate conveyance tax further discourages them from buying in CT.

I am 32 years old and was born and raised in Stamford (and now live in Norwalk which is more affordable in comparison). What a lot of people dont realize is that our generation is being screwed by our parents. Many people who have lived in this area for a long time see large profits on the homes they raised us in. Now facing retirement, they want to squeeze every last dime possible out of the next buyer, who is likely to be someone around my age who is looking to make their first home purchase. I wish more people would consider this when they get greedy about their home sale. Youre already making a 300% profit.

Two Boots is the rockingest place to be for B-port nightlife hands down. Always a party when Hank Cash throws down -- on June 30 and then the second and fourth Thursdays of the month. Free happy hour (5:30-ish) shows. C'mon down.

I totally agree with you! Evenings, Weekends and lunch time are ideal for Doc appointments, but most open late, have answering services between 12-2 and close at 5! I should also be able to review the cost prior to going too aside from my co-pay...I paid $70 for a fitting of contacts that i already know how to put in! Crazy.

That first commentor has no idea what it means for a YP to survive. Most YPs don't make enough money to survive on salary alone to pay the cost of self paid health insurance is much more expensive (just ask your local freelancer how much it costs if they even have insurance!)Health Insurance is a huge perk for people being employed at lower salaries.

It seems you want what you want, when you want it and it should cost nothing.

First, there is nothing broken about healthcare. It's readily accessible. What needs fixing is the mandates on health insurers - which by the way is not "health care" - which the government imposes, which drives up cost.

The second thing that is wrong is that health insurance is distributed through your employer. Why? Why is your employer made to be your momma when it comes to health insurance? They don't insure your cars, they don't insure your home, they don't insure your life, so why are they the purchase point for your health insurance?

People should be free to see whoever they want, and they should pay their own way, including choosing what coverage they want and need. Why should you take what your employer chooses for you?

Thank you for the great tips. I would like to add that making an effort to engage readers is a great way to inspire them to have an affinity towards your blog / emotional connection, which translates into readers returning to your blog. This engagement can be as simple as ending a blog post with a question.

Btw, I love the way you write and would be honoured if you would write a guest blog for my blog called MyBeak Social Media at http://lauraleewalker.com/welcome-guest-bloggers.

Happy Blogging!

"take existing buildings, like GE and Remington Arms, “that are contaminated or a mess already,” and build new buildings there, Sepanek said"? I don't agree, and hundreds of Brigeport residents who have signed our petition to save the GE Remingtonm Arms don't agree either. The GE Remington Arms buildings are part of Bridgeport's history, and can be restored, given new purpose. Let's not be lazy and carefree about the things that made Bridgeport a great City. It's irresponsible for a green architect to advocate tearing down structures that are structurely sound, and only require gutting. As far as the grounds are concerned, it's been demonstrated in hundreds of remediated projects around the world, that certain combinations of plants can over time, detoxify the soil of just about any contaminant. So hold on just a minute, and stop advocating tearing down the GE Remington Arms buildings out of casual expediency. It's reckless, and promotes the perpetuation of a slash and burn policy which has already transformed Bridgeport into a miniature Detroit. Give pride back to the City, fix it up, stop preaching demolition as a solution to tax problems! You don't build a green Bridgeport by tearing down its historical landmarks.

I hope Howard is right that once LED bulbs are mass produced, they will come down significantly in price. There will be a greater demand for the product once the price drops. Even though the initial cost of LED bulbs seems high, it will be offset by the energy saving incurred and the long lifetime of the bulbs (longer life means that you will have to replace the bulbs much less frequently). I have only worked with Sharp for a short time, but I have always been happy with the quality of products that they have to offer. If you are in the marked for lighting, I recommend you check out their LED bulbs

My three year old daughter was nearly run down right in front of me last fall by a texting driver. It changed me but I don’t hate texting. The way I see it, that would be like hating nightfall – its coming no matter what. 72% of teens text every single day - some over 3000 times a month. The texting drivers I spoke with, including teens and truckers, all said that laws and Big Brother type software devices that "lock down" their phones would not deter them at all. They feel their civil liberties slipping away. So I built a tool called OTTER for the individual to help manage their texting on their terms.

OTTER is a comprehensive text management system for the home, office and certainly, the highway. It has GPS based Parental Control Feature for teen drivers, a GPS Mode for adult who choose to use it and an Auto reply with unlimited customized responses. We are getting 4.5 to 5 star rating from the tech community and great response from teen groups and safety organizations. We have heard of teens using OTTER to schedule their own "texting blackout periods" so they can get some homework done without feeling disconnected from their social network. If a teen uses OTTER like this, then we think they will see the benefit of OTTER's road safety features. We are not going to stop until change hits our roads and not just our laws. Please give us your feedback.

There are such places - ice rinks, parks, forests for hiking, trails for biking, beaches, lakes, ski resorts, bowling alleys, rifle ranges, drag race tracks, boxing arenas, libraries, fencing clubs, craft centers, etc. The problem is that these idiots do not actually have any interest in doing anything.

Oh, this gives me hope. Hope that young people who will participate not only in running for office but in VOTING will some day be smarter than their parents, who apparently voted that knucklehead Joe Lieberman into office. He's hurting Chris Dodd, who has done nothing but support him, and doing everything he can to make sure that young people do not get the health care they deserve. Sad man, his effects tragic for all of us, but political activism like this makes me happy.

Hi Vinti,
I am a graduate student at Sarah Lawrence College and as a project for one of my courses am doing a survey on the Quality of Life for Young Adults with Chronic Illnesses in the lower Fairfield and upper Westchester Counties. I would love to talk to you about possible resources in the area that I might interview. If you are interested, please contact me at the email address I have provided. Thank you.

The new America will be defined by mass immigration, a stagnant economy, mass deficits, high taxes, a weak military, and Socialism.

This is Obama's gift to our children.

Obama & the Democrats are tone deaf and have been for decades. America doesn't want Socialized Heath Care nor can it afford another overblown entitlement program! Their stupidity is now ripping apart the very seems of the Union.

America wants heathcare REFORM, not healthcare REVOLUTION. It's possible to insure the 15 million citizens who WANT coverage but can't afford it without destroying the best health CARE system in the world.

The way to lower costs and cover the uninsured is through the free market system. Not through Uncle Sam's interference. Medical savings accounts, private co-ops, purchasing pools, and tax credits are all viable solutions. Tort reform is crucial too. A "public option" is not. The government has an unfair advantage through taxpayer subsidies and will crowd out all private competitors.

America doesn't want GOVERNMENT HOSPITALS. It's not a "public option" as Obama so neatly catch-phrased it. It's GOVERNMENT HOSPITALS, or Socialized Heathcare, and there's no "option" if your employer switches your coverage. And we citizens don't want this! No bureaucrat should ever stand between you and your doctor and lowering costs shouldn't preclude top-notch care. Going to the doctor should never be like going to the DMV, and GOVERNMENT HOSPTIALS will give us that. Just like they did in England and Canada, where long lines, death panels, and rationing are now part of the heath care delivery system. Not to mention, top doctors flee those systems for higher pay in America.

If Obama and the Dimocrats like Socialized Healthcare so much than I suggest they move to Russia, Cuba, or the like and become single-payers in those failed sytems. Otherwise, HANDS OFF MY HEALTHCARE YOU GREEDY BUREAUCRATS!!!

Hi,

What do you think is the best way to motivate young adults to consider health insurance? to care about health insurance? to talk about health insurance? -- What is the best medium to spread the message to this important audience? A town hall on YouTube? Facebook?

I had Deak at Fairfield in 1983! We had a recession back then too, and I'm here to tell you they end and I've forgotten it. I think Deak may be exaggerating a little about the affects of this recession. I do agree with you, however, that I think I had more of an appreciation of work than some of the younger employees I work with.
Cheers,
John
