Stratton Mountain in southern Vermont kicked off its season this morning with 13 trails open. Open trails now allow for top-to-bottom skiing and riding for Stratton’s full 1,872 vertical drop.
Stratton says the upper part of the mountain remains foggy, but clears half-way down from the summit.
The best riding is found off the Ursa chair on such trails as Black Bear, Polar Bear and Upper Grizzly Bear.
Up to five inches of fresh snow is expected later tonight and much colder temperatures in the forecast. Stratton is hoping to open 30 trails for the weekend.
Stratton joins Jay, Killington, Mount Snow, Okemo, Smuggler’s, Stowe and Sugarbush as the Vermont areas to open. Expect most of the rest to have their lifts turning this weekend.
