Planning Board expected to make decision on BLT licensing Tuesday

Planning Board members are expected to vote Tuesday night on a controversial licensing agreement with South End developer Building and Land Technology to enable a new boatyard in Shippan after delaying their decision last week.

BLT’s proposal would replace the 14-acre boatyard it razed on Bateman Avenue with a 6-acre boatyard on Magee Avenue, to make way for the developer to build a $750 million, 850,000-square-foot headquarters for Bridgewater Associates.

Last week, Planning Board members raised concerns about the financial conditions of the agreement and the location of the new boatyard while also reiterating concerns about the developer’s demolition of the previous boatyard, Brewer’s Yacht Haven, one of the largest boatyards in the Northeast.

The developer needs to garner approval of the agreement from the planning board, the city’s Board of Finance, and the city’s Board of Representatives to proceed with land use approvals for the Bridgewater project.

The meeting will be at 7 p.m., Tuesday night, in the fourth floor cafeteria of the Stamford Government Center, 888 Washington Boulevard, Stamford.
