Voter turnout still lagging by midday

voting-boothSTAMFORD — Our latest check with the Registrar of Voters’ office found 8,538 people — 14.46 percent of eligible voters — had cast ballots as of noon.

The turnout rate still lags in comparison to the last mayoral election in 2009, when 17.1 percent of the city’s registered residents had voted by 12 p.m., according to Democratic Deputy Registrar Lynne Fife.

By noon on Tuesday slightly more than 20 people had visited the registrars’ offices to vote using the new same-day voter registration program, Fife said.

Poll will be open until 8 p.m.
