Two events for parents of special needs children set Jan. 16 & 30

STAMFORD — SCOPES, the Stamford Coalition of Parents Expecting Success, will hold two events for parents of children with all special needs.
The first event entitled, “Teaching Your Child Self-Advocacy,” will be held Jan. 16 and will feature a panel of attorneys, parents and educators. The event will discuss best practices in teaching self-advocacy to your child from the early years through transition to adulthood.
The second program will be held Jan. 30 and feature a panel of Winnie Hamilton, Tamu Lucero, Wayne Holland,  John Leydon, Rabbi Josh Hammerman and others. The panel will re-enact two versions of the same IEP (Individualized Education Plan) meeting for a student with a disability.
Both events will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. at Rippowam Middle School Auditorium, 381 High Ridge Road. Spanish translation will be available.
