A Weston man was arrested for groping a woman at the Stamford Yacht Club bar early last month, police said.
Wayne Hubbard, 55, of 260 Georgetown Road, was charged with fourth-degree sexual assault and released after posting a $5,000 court appearance bond.
Sgt. Sean McGowan said on March 2 police were called to a Stamford woman’s house on a complaint that she had been groped by Hubbard.
The 55-year-old woman said she was in the Stamford Yacht Club bar with her daughter when Hubbard came up to her. He leaned down, as if to kiss her from behind, and put his left hand around her right breast, McGowan said.
The woman’s daughter said she saw the incident and mentioned that Hubbard appeared extremely drunk and said he seemed to be trying to pick up women at the bar. The daughter described Hubbard’s actions that night as “creepy,” McGowan said. The woman called police to her home soon after the incident and made the complaint.
A warrant was signed for Hubbard’s arrest and was in the system on Tuesday when he appeared at Troop G in Bridgeport trying to get a pistol permit. Troopers ran his name and found out he had a warrant for his arrest and he was held for Stamford police, McGowan said.
Hubbard is due in court for arraignment on the charges April 23.
