Five injured in Stamford shooting captured on video

Dayron Wills 071314 croppedFive people were shot early Sunday morning outside a downtown Stamford nightclub in a wild scene captured on video.

None of the injuries was life threatening, police said. A suspect was quickly identified and arrested.

The shooting took place in Columbus Park outside Tino’s Nightclub just after 1:30 a.m. as the streets were filling with people leaving the bars and clubs just before closing time. The suspect was involved in an altercation outside the club and began shooting into the crowd, police said.

Police officers in the area heard the gunshots and on arriving at the scene found that four men and a woman had been shot. At least two of them were bystanders unrelated to the altercation.

The suspect, Dayron Wills, 22, of 300 Tresser Boulevard, Apt. 7E, was charged with five counts of first-degree assault and held on $1 million bond.

Interviewed Sunday afternoon, Wills’ mother, Linda, said her son had a pistol permit because he worked in security. She said she didn’t know what had happened at the club, but that friends of her son had been calling throughout the day, and that one said her son had got jumped in the club.

“I think it has something to do with the kids in the city just fighting about a lot of nonsense,” Wills said.

The video taken on a mobile phone by someone who was standing close to the shooter is dark and blurry, but the gunman can easily be seen firing his weapon, seemingly indiscriminately, into the crowd as people fled for cover.

Officers caught the suspect in the area of Atlantic and Bank streets, near old Town Hall.

Police said the crime scene stretched across two blocks, in the heart of the city’s restaurant and nightlife center where the popular Alive@Five and Jazz Up July concerts are held in summertime. The video shows a street filled with people and cars on a warm night.

300 Tresser? There are no apartments over there. A hotel, some office buildings. WTF?
All the new development going on here and the apts asking $3k minimum. Then you have this crap going on? Yeah, I’m not paying those prices to live in that kind of environment.

Dayron had way more than 10 bullets in his gun. How is this possible with Connecticut’s new gun laws??? I guess it’s just the good people that carry 10 rounds our less.

The only reason a photo and this story was reported. Bad for business for Goldstein $$$$. She demanded coverage by the Advocate to save the Goldstein shakedown money from the DSSD.
